At uke learning we work hard to ensure all of our learners are risk aware and not risk averse, and involve them in health and safety rather than merely deliver health and safety as a programme module.  We make all of our learners aware of their entitlements and own responsibilities in terms of health and safety and appropriate behaviours. Our approach is that health and safety is a lifelong skill, so that our learners take responsibility for their own safety, to manage risk and minimise the possibility of accidents.

The following resources are available to our learners to help maximise awareness:

  • The health, safety and welfare of learners, when taking part in programmes involving work experience (of whatever type), depends on 6 essential factors which are all equally important.  The Skills Funding Agency have developed a Safe Learner Blueprint for Work Related Learning to provide advice and guidance   Follow the link to Safelearner to find out more.
  • The Learning and Skills Council LSC has teamed up with the IOSH, the British Chambers of Commerce and the National Youth Agency to provide a free online resource to help teenagers prepare for their first taste of work is now live. Jam packed with games, interesting facts and a whole lot more, follow the link to wiseup2work to find out more.
  • “Be Safe“ is an introductory guide to health and safety for those learning about health and safety.  The purpose of the guide is to raise awareness amongst learners about risk and highlight what you can do to ensure your health and safety at work. It also includes information on entitlements and where you can get further help. Click here to download the "Be Safe" brochure.
