What exactly is an Advanced Apprenticeship?

The uke learning Advanced Apprenticeship is a brand new way of kick starting your career.  Joining forces with Microsoft we are not only offering a new way of participating in the Microsoft Advanced  IT Apprenticeship programme, but also offering a new way to learn.   Using e-learning techniques, you will be employed by a Microsoft partner and study at the same time to “learn while you earn”, achieving industry recognised certifications no matter where you are in the UK.

Our Apprenticeships offer a totally work focused experience.  With all skills, including the technical, business and inter-personal skills you need to be a good employee, included in the programme, your studies will be firmly based on real life problems in your day to day working environment.  You will be learning practical techniques and apply them at work, providing you with valuable work experience.

You will gain:

  • A thorough grounding and real qualifications in the technical aspects of IT.  Following successful completion of the programme, not only will you receive your Advanced Apprenticeship Certificate (equivalent to 2 A levels),  you will also have gained certifications in Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist (MCTS)., Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP): Enterprise Support Technician, CompTIA A+ and Network+
  • An understanding of what it means to be a good employee, including punctuality, dress code, communication and presentation skills, health and safety, customer service and teamwork
  • Experience in job hunting, and how to give yourself the best chance of standing out to your prospective employer. 
  • Help in finding a job, via our job matching services with a wide range of great companies.
  • Personal support to help you at every stage of your personal learning plan
  • A mix of on-line and on the job training so you can put your new found skills and knowledge into practice immediately

What kind of qualifications do I need to apply for an IT Apprenticeship?

To apply for an IT Apprenticeship you must have at least 5 GCSE’s or equivalent at grade C or above including English and Maths.  As with all careers, you must have a keen interest in your choice and so a desire to work in IT is essential. 

The uke learning programme is work based and is designed to allow you to study remotely, both at work and in your own time.  To succeed you must therefore be motivated and able to demonstrate a personal commitment to learning.

How do I apply?

Where does the training take place?

The uke learning Microsoft IT Advanced Apprenticeship programme has been designed to use a remote delivery solution suitable for geographically diverse apprentices.  This means you can study no matter where you live in the UK.   There is an initial 2 day induction where you will need to travel to London to meet your tutors and other Apprentices. This will help you to form relationships and feel part of your new community.  After that, all learning and support will take place using e-learning techniques and mobile technologies both at home and in your work place.

How long does the programme run for?

The uke learning Microsoft IT Advanced Apprenticeship programme runs for 11 months.  It is a work based Apprenticeship programme and your hours of work will be determined by your employer at your place of work, usually from 9am until 5pm.  You will need to take responsibility to make sure you arrive on time and to build up good attendance records.

I don’t have any experience – how can I find a job as an Apprentice?

The uke learning Apprenticeship Scheme isn’t just about training.  We also work with you to help you to find the right job with a company that cares about your future. 

We have strong partnerships with many employers across the UK and these companies work with us to provide work placements and to offer Apprenticeships.   Using psychological profiling techniques, we will examine your interests and career goals and use this to match you to the employer and job that is right for you.

We will also help you to gain the skills you need to make a good employee.  Starting with how to write a CV, applying for jobs and preparing for interviews, we will also help you become “work ready” with personalised training and support to help you gain the skills and attitudes you need to step onto your career ladder.

What kind of job can I expect to get when I finish my Apprenticeship?

IT includes a wide variety of job roles and as the uke learning Advanced Apprenticeship is focused on support, opportunities will range from Support Technicians, Systems Administrators, Web and Windows Developers, and Systems Engineers.  Although these will be junior roles to begin with, long term career prospects are excellent, especially with continued training.

Do I have to pay to take an Advanced Apprenticeship?

The uke learning Advanced Apprenticeship Programme is designed to allow you to “earn while you learn”. It is a fully funded programme for 16 – 18 year olds with all costs met by the Government.  All course materials and books are supplied by uke learning, so there’s no cost for these either. 

Average earnings on programme are £100 per week with a Microsoft Partner, including the  Education Maintenance Allowance of up to £30 per week.  We will help you to work out if you are eligible and process the paperwork so that you can receive the Allowance.
